Spagna cantante y compositora italiana. Empezó su carrera cantando en inglés y a principio de los 80 escribió las canciones y fue vocalista junto a (Angela Parisi) de un proyecto de duo Italo disco llamado Fun Fun, así como escribiendo canciones para muchos otros proyectos musicales dance hasta 1986, cuando se embarcó en una carrera en solitario.
Su primera canción dance fue «Easy Lady» (1986), fue un hit alrededor de Europa. En 1987 lanzó su tercer éxito, «Call Me«. Este single fue número #1 en varios lugares de Europa, y alcanzó número #2 en Italia y en las listas del Reino Unido. También fue número #13 en la lista Billboard de Estados Unidos. Su primer álbum, Dedicated to the Moon, fue lanzado en el mismo año y vendió más de 500,000 copias.
Después del hit en Reino Unido «Every Girl and Boy» y un álbum dance-rock, ”You Are My Energy” (1988), Spagna se trasladó a Santa Mónica, (California) y grabó su tercer álbum No Way Out (1991). Este álbum contenía una canción escrita por Diane Warren («There’s a Love»), y dos singles («Love at First Sight» y «Only Words») que se catapultó al número #5 en las listas de ventas de Italia. El álbum llegó a ser Platino (con más de 100,000 copias vendidas).
En 1993, Spagna se trasladó de nuevo a Europa, y grabó Matter of Time, con los dos singles exitosos de Eurodance, «Why Me» (#10 en Italia) y «I Always Dream About You» (#5 en Italia).
En 1995, después del lanzamiento de su último éxito de baile («Lady Madonna», #4 en Italia), empezó a cantar en su idioma nativo, el italiano. Después de lograr un gran éxito en Italia con la versión de la canción de Elton John «Circle of Life» («Il cerchio della vita»), presentado en la banda sonora de la película de Disney El Rey León. Formó parte también en el festival de San Remo, el evento más importante del panorama musical y cinematográfico de Italia, ocupando el tercer puesto con la canción «Gente Come Noi» en 1995. Su primer álbum en italiano, Siamo in due, vendió más de 350,000 copias y llegó a ser el álbum más vendido como cantante femenina del año en Italia.
Desde ese año en adelante, Spagna lanzó muchos álbumes que fueron un éxito cantados en italiano, incluyendo los hits «Siamo in due», «E io penso a te», «Lupi solitari», «Indivisibili», «Dov’eri», «Il bello della vita- Canción de la copa de Europa», «Con il tuo nome».
Los álbumes y singles de Spagna han vendido un total de más de 15 millones de copias en todo el mundo, por ello ha sido galardonada como «Disco d’oro alla carriera» (Disco de Oro por su carrera musical) por la Federación Italiana de la Industria de la Música (FIMI) en 2006.
En 2014 volvió a la música dance en colaboración con los productores de sus orígenes. Lanzó el sencillo The magic of love y en 2015 otros dos singles: Baby don’t go y Straight to hell, con un video inspirado en El Curioso Caso de Benjamin Button.
En 2019 lanzó «Cartagena», una nueva canción de pop en colaboración con Jay Santos. La canción vendió 200.000 copias, su mayor logro en cuanto a copias vendidas desde finales de los 90.
Spagna is an Italian singer and songwriter. She started her career singing in English and in the early 1980s she provided vocals (with Angela Parisi) and wrote songs for an Italo disco duo project called Fun Fun, as well as writing songs for many other dance music projects until 1986, when she embarked on a solo career.
Her first dance song «Easy Lady» (1986) was a hit throughout Europe. In 1987 she released her third hit, «Call Me«. The single made #1 in the European Chart, and reached #2 in Italy and in the UK Singles Chart. It also made #13 in the U.S. Billboard Dance Chart. Her first album, Dedicated to the Moon, was released the same year and sold over 500,000 copies.
After the UK hit «Every Girl and Boy» and a dance-rock album, ”You Are My Energy” (1988), Spagna moved to Santa Monica, California, and recorded her third album No Way Out (1991). This album featured a song written by Diane Warren («There’s a Love»), and two singles («Love at First Sight» and «Only Words») which peaked at #5 on the Italian chart. The album was certified Platinum (over 100,000 copies sold).
In 1993, Spagna moved back to Europe, and recorded Matter of Time, featuring the two successful Eurodance singles, «Why Me» (#10 in Italy) and «I Always Dream About You» (#5 in Italy).
In 1995, after the release of her last dance hit («Lady Madonna», #4 in Italy), she started singing in her native Italian. After achieving a great success in Italy with the Italian version of Elton John‘s «Circle of Life» («Il cerchio della vita»), featured in the Italian soundtrack of the Disney film The Lion King, she took part in the Sanremo Festival, the most important Italian song contest, ranking 3rd in 1995 with the song «Gente Come Noi». Her first album in Italian, Siamo in due, sold over 350,000 copies and became the best-selling album by a female singer in Italy that year.
From that year onwards, Spagna released many successful albums sung in Italian including hit singles such as «Siamo in due», «E io penso a te», «Lupi solitari», «Indivisibili», «Dov’eri», «Il bello della vita-World Cup Song», «Con il tuo nome».
Spagna’s albums and singles have sold a total of over 15 million copies worldwide, for which she has been awarded the «Disco d’oro alla carriera» (Gold certification for the career) by the Italian Federation of the Music Industry (FIMI) in 2006.
In 2014 returned to dance music in collaboration with the producers of her origins. She released the single The magic of love and in 2015 other two singles: Baby don’t go and Straight to hell, with a video inspired to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
In 2019 she released «Cartagena», a new pop-song in collaboration with Jay Santos. The song sold 200.000 copies, her highest score since late 90s.
