Eiffel 65 is an Italian three-piece Eurodance group formed in 1998 and best known for pioneering in pitch correction and Auto-Tune, and for their international hit “Blue (Da Ba Dee)”.
“Blue (Da Ba Dee)” peaked at #1 in most countries including Germany, Finland, Australia, the UK, reached the position #1 in the prestigious Eurochart Hot 100 Singles and position #6 on the USA Billboard Top 100 charts. “Blue” was also featured in several movies including Iron Man 3 (2013) where the song was chosen as the opening title. With 3 million copies sold in the United States, Eiffel 65 became the best-selling Italian artists in the USA of all times.
Their other hit singles include “Move Your Body” and “Too Much of Heaven”, all of which appeared in their album Europop, released in late 1999.
The name “Eiffel” was chosen randomly by a computer program and the “65” was scribbled onto their name on a demo by mistake; it was actually part of a phone number. Eiffel 65 achieved huge success in Italy, the rest of Europe, United States, and Canada.
The album “Europop” peaked in the top five on the Billboard 200, was at the top of the MuchMusic countdown, and sold over 2 million units.
After touring intensively worldwide, in 2001 they released their 2nd album “Contact!” with the hits “Back in time”, “Lucky (in my life)” e “80’s Stars”.
In only 5 years Eiffel 65 have sold 15 million copies worldwide winning numerous awards including:
- Triple platinum in Germany, England, United States and Australia
- Nomination at the 2001 Grammy Awards
- Diamond album in France
- Gold album in Italy
